Shohei is a contemporary Japanese artist whose artworks show the influence of traditional Japanese style combined with modern style. He is known for mainly using ballpoint pens to draw his works.
Shohei was born in 1980 in Tokyo as the son of a famous manga artist, Katsuhiro Otomo. After graduating from the Tama Art University, he started working as a freelance illustrator. His drawing lines using ballpoint pens are ultra-precise and fine, and the images present mixtures of the past and modern day Japan. The geishas, yōkais and samuraïs are depicted together with the iconoclastic visions of the 21st century. He has provided illustrations for the “Carhartt WIP” campaign in 2012, and the album cover for ‘Yoshu Fukushu” by Maximum the Hormone, collaborated with NIKE, and decorated the facade of the agnès b. Shop in Aoyama, Tokyo.
