SAL is a Japanese artist. He bases his works on existentialism which makes him concentrate on seeing the reality that exists in front of him. He also pursues the universality that can be seen across different periods of time, and at the same time, tries to find new values in them.
SAL was born in Hyogo, Japan in 1970, and started painting in 1996. He started presenting his works of graphic art around 2004 in the culture scene. He is known for creating the album cover for DJ KRUSH’s best album in 2006. Since then he has been commissioned to create art pieces for various clients including the ballroom wall at the Hyatt Regency in Dusseldorf. After 2008, the artist changed his art style drastically. He no longer worked on graphic works but started drawing on big pieces of patchwork canvases with pencil. After trying different methods, the artist settled on creating painting like works. His focus now is more on expressing the aspects of humanity that developed from the Japanese-style artworks representing nature, where one can see the influence from his previous works of graphic art.
